LUMEX Presents Larger LUMEX Avance-60 to UK Market

The news has passed a bit under the radar, as Japan-based Matsuura does not seem to be particularly experienced in online media marketing techniques, however the company just  announced the UK launch of the LUMEX Avance-60, the larger sister model to the unique hybrid (SLM additive and CNC subtractive) LUMEX Avance-25. Since the Avance-25 has been present on the market – and has been the Matsuura reference system (and the only hybrid system) for about a decade – this is quite a significant step. Especially since the new machine is truly impressive for size. The ability to “grow” a metal component in layers with complex internal features & mill those internal & external features as the layers are added to give a perfect surface finish makes the LUMEX platform a unique machine tool in the future armoury of designers & manufacturers, offering both a route to create components & products that could only before theoretically exist in the imagination. LUMEX-Avance-60-SFWLUMEX is Matsuura’s hybrid metal 3D printer series which comprises metal laser sintering by fibre laser and high-speed milling in one machine. Matsuura led the world from 2002 in the commercialisation of a hybrid metal 3D printer, and since then, has built up a solid track record in sales of the LUMEX Avance-25, capable of a maximum part size of 250 mm x 250 mm x 185 mm, serving mainly in the high value, high accuracy mold & die market – where it has revolutionised what is possible within the genre. Recent growing commercial interest from aerospace and automobile industries in LUMEX for a machine capable of creating larger, high value-added parts has led to Matsuura developing the LUMEX Avance-60, which can process a part sizes up to a maximum of 600 mm x 600 mm x 500 mm. This new model, with a larger maximum part size, will take Matsuura’s hybrid 3D metal printing and milling technology into new markets. The LUMEX Avance-60 is equipped with a high power 1kW fibre laser to shorten sintering time. In addition, the speed of powder distribution to the table top surface has been increased. In combination this means that maximum build speed has been increased to 35 cc/h. The system is also equipped with a fully integrated automatic powder supply, collection and reuse system. Metal powder materials can be supplied automatically to the sintering chamber without operator contact. On completion of processing, unused powder is automatically collected and sieved ready for reuse. This fullyautomated system ensures exceptional levels of automation and eliminates the possibility of powder dispersal in the working area, further maintaining a safe working environment. The addition of the LUMEX Avance-60 to the line-up will see a significant  expansion of Matsuura LUMEX Technology into new markets. Matsuura exhibited the LUMEX Avance-60 at DMS2016 (27th Design Engineering & Manufacturing Solutions Expo) on June 22nd in Tokyo, resulting in the first European based investor in this latest LUMEX.
