Biobots Launches New BioBot 2 Bioprinter and New Bioink Kits

During a private event held at Gallery13, in Minneapolis, US-based desktop 3D bioprinter manufacturer Biobots presented the next generation of products targeted at affordable bioprinting adoption. The new line up was headed up by the new BioBot 2 Bioprinter, which is supported by new software and new bioink starter kits for hard and soft tissue processing.

The new BioBot 2 hardware was presented as the “most powerful yet easy to use bioprinter in the world”. It has 6 print heads that each cool to 4° and heat to 200° Celsius and can print mixtures of both cells and biomaterials. The print bed heats to 120 degrees, so users can maintain cells at 37 degrees and experiment with new materials.

The BioBot 2 is also equipped with lights for photocrosslinking and employs a sophisticated array of sensors and computer vision to automatically set all the printing parameters for the new materials. It is also WiFi enabled and powered by BioBots cloud software.

“We have been working closely with scientists over the past year and a half to really understand what it is that they need in order to push this work forward”, said Biobots CEO Danny Cabrera. “What we found is that they wanted more than just a bioprinter, they wanted ways to measure how different parameters affected biological processes. We are launching the first suite of tools for doing 3D biology, from software to hardware, and wetware.”

On the software end, Biobots created an entire project management suite to let users create experiments, run bioprinting studies, and analyze their data. The software runs entirely in the cloud.  As for wetware, Biobots is releasing 3 new kits: a hard tissue kit for fabricating hard tissues such as bone and cartilage, a soft tissue kit for exploring soft tissues like skin, lung, and liver, and a collagen kit that empowers users to print collagen at very high resolutions.
