HyVision Illustrates Its Vision for 3D Printing in Korea

With the inauguration of Moon Jaein, the new president in South Korea, the government’s emphasis on the fourth industrial revolution, which includes 3D printers and its derivatives, is still going strong. In Korea, starting around 2011, the number of 3D printing companies have risen and fallen, but there is one 3D printer company that has been growing constantly. That is HyVISION SYSTEM, which presumably moves the most of such products in Korea.

At the end of March this year, they had what they called a ‘Cubicon Tech day’. It was comprised of two sections. The first half started with a greeting and introductory speech from the CEO, Choi Doowon. Then they presented their latest 3D printer model, the Cubicon Lux Full HD, Cubicon Cure (UV solidifier) and the Cubicon Scan Pro. According to the company, the Full HD model features a drastic improvement in precision, with better stability and lower noise compared to the previous model Cubicon Lux. With a full HD DLP engine, the printer makes printing as precise as 0.057 micron feasible, which is thinner than a human hair. With the delicate and fine results of their printers, these machines are considered to be an especially a good fit for the jewelry and dental industries.

To be more specific about their Cubicon Lux series, as this desktop DLP machine prints an object you can observe the object from all angles because of the round black translucent case. To protect your work environment, the machines also has an integrated filter to purify the air, which helps reduce users’ exposure to chemicals and odors. Furthermore, the somewhat artistic design of Cubicon Lux series has won the IDEA Design Award from the IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America) and the Good Design Award from the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

They also presented a brand new ABS-like Resin material, which is said to have similar properties and traits to ABS. The company designed their new resin to cope with the durability problems of traditional DLP printed objects by having the strength of ABS, and yet simultaneously keeping the precision of the DLP process.

The second section was more casual. The developers of the machine, affiliates, brokers and customers had chance to talk about the machines openly with the developing engineers. Their 3D printing-related machines were placed in each booth. Then people attend the interested booth for questions and also experience the machines itself.

For those not familiar with HyVISION SYSTEM Inc., the firm was started in 2002 as a compact automatic camera module test equipment provider. Their customers were mostly large conglomerates, such as Samsung, LG, and Apple. Having consistent and lucrative B2B customers, HyVision remained largely out of the public view until they jumped into the 3D printing market. With the release of their Cubicon Single in 2014, they have introduced a new line of products every year. In 2015, they introduced the Cubicon Style and, the next year the Cubicon single plus and the Cubicon Lux. More about the machines can be found here.

Among 3D printer companies in Korea, HyVision System is one of the very few firms that boasts a systematic and large infrastructure, and that is a big advantage considering that most 3D printer manufacturers in Korea were start-ups. By coordinating their various strengths and resources, they are moving their products overseas actively. Having 27 distributors in 22 different countries, they have moved approximately 4,000 printers all over the world including, of course, the domestic market.

HyVision Systems has shown a passion for high quality, for both their machines and the prints that those machines make, raising the expectations of their customers. They have repeatedly said, however, that they are not complacent with the current situation. They already had a reputation as a company that invests a lot on research and development, which they say puts more emphasis on their constant search for better quality, which should serve them well as they continue to expand their markets globally.
